Tallow is rendered beef fat. Rendering is the process of seperating the fat from the animal tissue. It is slowly cooked down to get a purified oil that is known as Tallow.
Tallow is packed full of nutrients. Our Tallow is grass feed and grass finished providing you with a product full of health aiding fats and vitamins like A, D, K, and E. Tallow's saturated fat ratio is nearly identical to our own skins ratio meaning it is compatible with our cell biology aiding in healthy firm skin and deep moisturization.
Tallow has a very stable shelf life. It does not need to be refrigerated and hardens at room temperature. That being said, we recommend using it within 6-12 months. Should you tallow melt the oils may separate and the consistency may change; this does not change the benefits of the balm. We recommend placing it in the refrigerator to hard back up or rewhip it to restore the consistency.
We also do not use any preservatives (YAHH :)). That being said, should water get into your tallow balm there is a chance mold may form. Do your best to keep any water out of the jar to preserve your tallow balm quality. Should mold form please discontinue.
Yes! Just like adults, Tallow will help nourish and soothe irritated and dry skin on babies. We make a Naked Tallow balm that is simply our Tallow and Organic Olive Oil- we recommend this blend as some essential oils can be an irritant to sensitive baby skin.
No, tallow does not leave you feeling greasy. Due to the similarities in tallow's saturated fat ratio and our sebum (our natural skin oils), our skin is able to absorb the tallow leaving you feeling moisturized on a deep level.
